Shanty towns like the one above spread in the parks and open spaces in cities across America. Theses makeshift cities of scrap wood and cardboard housed people who lost their homes and apartments. These slum communities became known as Homerville's. They were named after President Herbert Hoover as a derogatory comment because people felt he did little to help people during the Great Depression.
